Plant Me

Bringing Street Trees to a Neighborhood Near You

Project Overview

Plant Me began as a personal project advocating for more street trees in San Francisco.
Stencils were “planted” in neighborhoods with little to no tree cover.
The underlying message is that a healthy urban forest fosters a more walkable, livable and sustainable city.

Initial Research

Historically underfunded and inadequately maintained, San Francisco’s tree canopy is one of the smallest of any large U.S. city.
Lack of consistent funding has hampered the city’s ability to plant and care for its street trees.

Civic Engagement As Public Art

To date, many of the initial stencils have been replaced by actual tree plantings.
